With an area of 8,500 square meters and a weight of 1012.5 tons, “bones” and “wings” will gradually appear . The appearance design of T2 terminal is like a “Bay Area wing” taking off, and the upgrading of the main building grid means that the “bones” and “wings” of the steel space frame terminal will gradually emerge.
The new T2 steel space frame terminal is twice the size of the existing T1 terminal, and the roof is generally divided into four major areas, namely the main terminal building area, the east corridor area, the west corridor area and the South corridor area, with a total roof area of more than 65,000 square meters.Among them, the roof civil engineering adopts the space grid structure, and the total weight of the overall grid reaches 5,220 tons.

There are 47 lifting points with a height difference of 14 meters, and the body project is expected to be completed in 2024. How to install such a “behemoth” safely and accurately to the designated location has become a difficult problem in front of the project builders, and the complex curved surface of the roof shape and no small height difference have undoubtedly increased the difficulty of the construction of the grid.
After repeated research, the project technical team decided to adopt the method of zoning construction. Among them, the east and west corridor roof grid adopts lifting technology, and the main building and south corridor roof grid adopts lifting technology.
At present, the eastern corridor grid has been completed, and the western corridor grid has been 60% completed. The main building grid has officially entered the construction stage of upgrading, and the south finger corridor grid has entered the final stage of assembly.
Gao Quanlong, deputy manager of Zhuhai Airport reconstruction and expansion Project Department, introduced that the main structure of T2 terminal has completed 90% of the project progress, the roof grid installation is expected to be completed in mid-to-late April, the curtain wall and metal roof project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and then enter the baggage system, boarding bridge, security channel and passenger services and other supporting facilities construction process.The entire project is expected to be completed in 2024.
At that time, entering the “double terminal” era of Zhuhai Jinwan Airport, the annual passenger handling capacity will double from the current level, reaching 27.5 million passengers.
